In Texas, 11 truck inspections on one road in one day turned up 23 violations, and 7 of those violations were serious enough to take a truck or driver out of service until fixed.
The El Paso Police Department's Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance unit is leading a multi-agency commercial motor vehicle safety operation along Transmountain Road, according to a media advisory from the El Paso Police Department. The department says the goal is "to improve safety for everyone who travels the corridor."

First-day results
The department released these totals for the first day, Wednesday, Oct. 21:
- Commercial vehicle safety inspections: 11
- Total violations found: 23
- Out-of-service violations: 7
The advisory explains that out-of-service means "the problem must be fixed before the vehicle or driver can continue."
Who is taking part
According to the advisory, the partner agencies are:
- The El Paso County Sheriff's Office Traffic Section, handling general traffic enforcement.
- The Texas Department of Public Safety, handling commercial vehicle enforcement and roving patrols starting Thursday, Oct. 22.
- The El Paso County Constable's Office, Precinct 4, handling intermittent traffic enforcement through its STEP grant.
What drivers should know
The department says drivers will see more law enforcement along Transmountain Road while the operation continues. Officers will do inspections in open areas along the roadway, and a lane may sometimes be closed so officers and drivers can work safely.
Drivers are asked to slow down, pay attention, and move over or slow down when passing officers or vehicles stopped on the shoulder, as Texas law requires. The advisory also says commercial drivers "should ensure their vehicles, equipment, and paperwork are in compliance before traveling."
The operation is ongoing, and the department says it will share updated totals as it continues.
